I edited the video to include just the segment where Walter talks about the actors and they show the clips. The full interview is in the bottom two videos. I clearly took the wrong language in high school … lol

I was browsing on iTunes and found a short french clip via mk2 Podcast! The podcast is downloadable if you have itunes installed. Search for Sur La Route or Garrett Hedlund and look at all the podcasts.

The scene is of Camille(Kirsten Dunst) and Sal(Sam Riley) dancing, and you can see Dean in the background :)

Walter Salles was in Paris today for the unveiling of the special exhibit of the Original Scroll of On the Road. Included in the exhibit is a new picture of Dean and Marylou.

A picture of a page from the script, one of the final moments. You’ll see it mentions a picture of Sal, Dean and Carlo and I think that’s the picture we posted earlier today (but don’t quote me on that lol).

Dean and Marylou’s marriage license

More pictures from the event under the cut and the Brazil On the Road Facebook page has tons more. The exhibit opens to the public tomorrow.

Dean had already left. Carlo and I saw him off at the 34th Street Greyhound station. Upstairs they had a place where you could make pictures for a quarter. Carlo took off his glasses and looked sinister. Dean made a profile shot and looked coyly around. I took a straight picture that made me look like a thirty-year-old Italian who’d kill anybody who said anything against his mother. This picture Carlo and Dean neatly cut down the middle with a razor and saved a half each in their wallets. – On the Road, Part One, Chapter One

LOVE what they say about Garrett’s performance. Leave a comment if you’re going to the film festival – Tini already has her tickets (I’m beyond jealous lol).

Can you guys believe it’s only 10 days to the On the Road red carpet at Cannes? It was beginning to feel like this day was never going to come …

Anyway, here’s film critic Jon Frosch’s take on which performances to watch at the festival and Garrett and Kristen are both included (psst, Jon, it’s spelled “Hedlund”).

Faces of Cannes: Ten performances to watch

Garrett Hedlund, “On the Road”
Until now, Hedlund has mostly been in action films and comedies, but his role as a Beat Generation hero in Walter Salles’s Jack Kerouac adaptation will require more than all-American good looks and an affable smile. Will he be up to the task? (ed. – I think we all know the answer to that – Laura)

Kristen Stewart, “On the Road”
Pattinson’s partner in “Twilight” and in real life has also struggled to carve out a niche beyond the vampire franchise. Will her performance as free spirit Marylou in Salles’s “On the Road” pave the way for more substantial leading lady roles?

Read the rest of the list at France24. There is also a really interesting podcast at the bottom of the page.

Thank you, @vonch for the link!

Disney XD has posted an episode of TRON: Uprising. The show takes place before TRON: Legacy, so Sam isn’t a character and Garrett isn’t involved. But if the show is a hit, it might help Disney finally decide to greenlight TRON 3.

GET ON THE GRID WITH THE DISNEY XD PREVIEW OF TRON: UPRISING! — THE SERIES PREMIERES THURSDAY JUNE, 7TH AT 9/8C — ON DISNEY XD.

Beck is a young mechanic living in Argon City, a growing metropolis in a far off corner of the grid that has just been occupied by General Tesler, a henchman of the notorious Clu. After his best friend Bodhi is ruthlessly derezzed by Clu’s army, Beck seeks justice for his lost friend and launches a crusade against the regime. His rebellion captures the attention of Tron, the greatest warrior The Grid has ever known, who sees the potential in Beck and trains him to be his successor. Labeled with the moniker of The Renegade, Beck sparks a revolution to fight for the freedom of The Grid.

Amazon’s French site has the digital version of the soundtrack available on their website. You can only download the songs if you’re in France, but you can still preview the tracks even if you’re not able to purchase them and there are now 19 listed instead of the original 15 we’d heard about a couple of weeks ago. It gives us a nice glimpse of Gustavo Santaolalla’s score. Listen to the samples HERE

The CD is going to be available on May 14th and you can order that HERE.

Thank you, Megan, for the info!

This included clips from the L.A. press junket they did a few weeks ago, but they don’t actually show Garrett speak and I’m guessing that’s Sam in the chair on the right, who they don’t include in the shot.

Great new article from The Hollywood Reporter:

Why Kristen Stewart Slashed Her $20 Million Paycheck, Plus More Making ‘On the Road’ Stories

On the Road began its troubled progression to film with an unanswered prayer to Marlon Brando. “Dear Marlon,” wrote Beat novelist Jack Kerouac in a 1957 letter, “I’m praying that you’ll buy On the Road and make a movie of it. Don’t worry about structure; I know how to compress and rearrange the plot a bit … making it into one all-inclusive trip instead of the several voyages coast-to-coast in the book.” He added: “You play Dean, and I’ll play Sal. … Come on now, Marlon, put up your dukes and write!”

Brando never responded.

Fifty-one years later, at the end of 2008, Walter Salles had his own On the Road dream shattered.

“We were about to be greenlit when the American financial system imploded,” says the director. French financier Pathe wanted to drastically cut the $35 million budget for his adaptation of Kerouac’s generation-defining novel.

From Premiere Magazine’s French Edition, May Issue:

English translation :
(C) OnTheRoad-TheMovieFR / @NoemieS7art

Rated 3 out of 4 stars

After the death of his father in the beginning of the 50’s, Sal Paradise, young writer, go with his friend Dean Moriarty for a liberating odyssey on US roads. On the menu : sex, drugs and be-bop. At the end, a mythic novel.

Even if it has been quoted a thousand times in theater, Jack Kerouac’s novel, manifesto of the Beat Generation, had never been adapted. Walter Salles did it, with the experience he gained thanks to The Motorcycle Diaries, another road movie-biography happening in the 50’s. Good news : the Brazilian director did pretty well, imposing to its movie the same jazzy rhythm as the one who inspired the young writer years before.

Eric Gauthier is behind the camera, and the fact that he shoots with the camera on his shoulder conveys the permanent movement of the characters, who by changing their points of view, managed to have a better comprehension of the world.

In front of the perfect Sam Riley, witness and actor at the same time, Garrett Hedlund make us forget the disappointing ‘’Tron-Legacy’’ by playing with endless energy the charismatic Dean Moriarty, insatiable explorer of new vehicles, above all in love, – he was training every position, with one or several people at the same time, swinging both ways. Kirsten Dunst and above all Kristen Stewart are very good playing girlfriends always up for it, but inevitably disappointed when they discover that fidelity is not compatible with freedom.

In hindsight, the travel of these pioneers can be seen as limited if we compare it to more radicals experiences of following decades, but it has the merit to be the first, and the actors succeed in sharing with us the excitement of the discovery.
