I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I love that Garrett’s name pops up a lot in articles/blogs about casting the new movies. Since news is slow, I thought I’d post one and a couple of polls – Laura

From GeekTyrant:

5 Actors We’d Like To See In Star Wars

2. Garrett Hedlund

Role: Bounty Hunter

Demeanor: Cocky And Arrogant…but later develops and redeems himself (that’s his wheelhouse)

Potential Quote: “You’re acting like I’m just going to find him sitting on a stump in Dagobah, just ‘Hey man! Lost track of time!”

You were expecting Joseph Gordon Levitt? Not today. Hedlund fits the Star Wars role for me more than the latter any day of the week. His type fits the Han Solo role pretty well, and if there was one guy I’d see stepping in for Harrison Ford, it’d be him. Hedlund would also make a solid love interest for who I’m crossing my fingers for as the ultimate choice for a central character in the series… [Jennifer Lawrence - ed]

The studio is moving forward on a follow-up to the 2010 reboot with writer Jesse Wigutow.

A new Tron is back in development at Disney.

The sequel to the 2010 reboot Tron: Legacy — called Tron 3 in some quarters — is moving a step forward with Disney in negotiations to hire Jesse Wigutow to pen the latest draft of the script.

Joseph Kosinski, who directed Legacy, is attached to helm this installment, which is being developed with a renewed purpose under Alan Horn, who took the reigns of Disney Studios in June.

Some considered the dark and trippy Legacy — which teamed newcomer Garrett Hedlund with Jeff Bridges, star of the 1982 original Tron — a lukewarm performer when it opened in December 2010. But the film grossed $400 million worldwide, good enough to spark interest in prolonging the franchise. With that foundation and a strong brand, Disney believes it can really go for broke with a new movie.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. David DiGilio wrote an earlier draft of the script. Justin Springer, a co-producer on Legacy, is producing Tron 3.

Wigutow is already working with Disney on the adaptation of Peter and the Starcatchers and worked on Parallel, another Disney project being produced by Springer. The scribe, who also wrote Eragon and worked on Relativity’s remake of The Crow and Summit’s remake of The Osterman Weekend.

Marvel Testing Short List Of Actors For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Leader

EXCLUSIVE: As Marvel Studios does each time it looks to land a lead for a superhero franchise, Kevin Feige’s hit-making studio has put together a short list for the lead in its next major project, Guardians Of The Galaxy. Marvel, after reportedly hiring James Gunn as director, has begun the effort to cast Peter Quill, the Guardians leader who is the offspring of a human mother and an alien father. I’m hearing that Marvel is making test deals with a small group of leading men. Here are the names: Zero Dark Thirty‘s Joel Edgerton, Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston, Cloud Atlas‘ Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace (who has roles in both Lincoln and The Hobbit), and Eddie Redmayne from Les Miserables.

I’ve confirmed all of them are in contention but can’t say definitively that this list is all-inclusive as I’ve also heard of interest from or in Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden (he already played Cyclops in X-Men, but then again Chris Evans played Fantastic Four‘s Human Torch before landing Captain America) and Edgerton’s Animal Kingdom co-star Sullivan Stapleton. We’ll stay tuned, but this certainly means that Marvel and Disney are serious about launching new superhero franchises.

Guardians Of The Galaxy first appeared in Marvel Comics way back in 1969 but didn’t get its own series until the 1990s. Quill leads a group of alien superheros who team to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. The good guys are from the future, and another dimension. In the comics, the Guardians worked with The Avengers, so there should be opportunities to use Marvel’s big franchises to help launch the new one. That gives Disney a deep space companion to its plans to resuscitate Star Wars.

Wikipedia page for the character if you’re not familiar with him - Star-Lord

And here’s a very brief plot synopsis, which makes it sound like they may have tweaked the character a bit (just guessing because it says “human pilot” and not “half-human”)

“A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.”

No idea how accurate this article is but Garrett does have ties to Disney with Tron and he was also one of the actors Disney and Marvel approached for Captain America. I like the idea of him doing a big genre picture like this one, though part of me wishes more for a Star Wars movie than a Marvel movie. Hopefully we’ll find out more information soon … about any project lol – Laura

From MTV News:

‘Catching Fire’: Why Garrett Hedlund Passed On Finnick
‘On the Road’ actor confirms to MTV News at TIFF that he was up for ‘Catching Fire’ before Sam Claflin joined cast.

Finnick Odair, the dreamiest tribute in Panem, has finally been found, but only after a lengthy search that spanned countless A-list actors and virtual unknowns alike. “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” actor Sam Claflin will star as the trident-wielding Finnick in Francis Lawrence’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” but once upon a time, there was a very different man in the running for the role: “Tron Legacy” star Garrett Hedlund.

Hedlund confirmed his near miss with “Catching Fire” during a recent interview with MTV News at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting “On The Road,” yet another hotly awaited novel adaptation.

“They did [approach me],” Hedlund admitted to MTV about almost playing Finnick in the upcoming “Hunger Games” sequel. “But I was working on this film at the time. We shot the whole film in 23 days and I was really immersed in it. I couldn’t get around [to reading the 'Hunger Games' novels].”

“Everybody around me is flipping out about the books, and I didn’t really have the time to sit down lately to read any book, not just ‘Hunger Games,’” he explained further. “But I’ve got a couple [projects] on my plate that I’m looking forward to reading now.”

Even though Hedlund missed out on Finnick, the man who did secure the part is well-positioned to impress fans of all twelve districts. “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence spoke with MTV News recently and had nothing but kind words for what Claflin brings to the table as Finnick.

“He’s wonderful,” she said of her newest co-star. “He’s really sweet, a great, wonderful actor. He’s got a great American accent.”

Why Garrett Passed On Finnick

The rumors have been flying about Garrett possibly being cast as Finnick in Catching Fire and today those rumors have been even more intense because the Garrett on facebook posted about Finnick. As most of you know, Garrett isn’t on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, Myspace, Google+ or any other social networking site past, present or future. He also doesn’t have an Official Facebook page run by his publicist or anyone else connected to him. I’ve talked to Garrett about it and it’s an impostor, I promise.

This quote from an interview pretty much sums it up:

Twitter or Facebook?
G: Neither. I don’t do any of them.

There’s a fake Garrett Hedlund on Twitter.
G: People keep asking me why I don’t respond to them on Twitter and nobody can seem to believe that it’s not me. And they say, “Yeah it is. It’s your picture” and I’m like, “You’re such a fool.” As long as people know it’s not me, they can finally realize that this person’s silly and psychotic.

Source

As for whether or not Garrett is going to be cast as Finnick – your guess is as good as mine. Any announcement about that will come from the studio in the form of a press release that is timed to go out through the major industry publications like Variety.

I’m sorry if any of this comes across as harsh – I don’t mean for it to. It’s more of a frustration that this person has been pretending to be Garrett for several years now, tricking his fans, friends and family. As I wrote before, we are all here because we support Garrett and his career and I hate to think of anyone taking advantage of that, for whatever ulterior motives they may have.

Thanks for understanding :)
