Alt Film Guide has a nice review up of the trailer.

As to be expected, the just released trailer (see below) for Walter Salles’ On the Road looks classy — beautiful, subdued cinematography by Eric Gautier — and offers believable performances by a strong cast that includes Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart. The film’s target audience is clearly not the popcorn-eating Cineplex crowd; else, the trailer wouldn’t have featured any old typewriters or lines such as “the only people that interest me are the mad ones. The ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, desirous of everything at the same time. The ones that never yawn or say a commonplace thing.”

In fact, the most interesting aspect of the On the Road trailer is that, unlike most movie trailers out there, it gives words the same emphasis as images. To say that’s because it’s based on a book — Jack Kerouac’s — is nonsense. Just look at the trailers for myriad other novel adaptations, from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to the Robert Pattinson vehicle Bel Ami. Their focus is on the images, whether those are of sweeping vistas and action scenes, or the faces of the actors involved in the drama (or comedy, as the case may be). Note: I have nothing against images. Just look at the above photo. That one image says 1,000 words — or more, depending on how wild your imagination is.

I was going to do my own write up about this, but my brain is a bit fried at the moment. Luckily another site just posted about it.

‘On The Road’ trailer premiere delayed for technical issues

The highly anticipated movie trailer for On The Road is having a little problem being uploaded. The movie, which stars Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Sturridge and Viggo Mortensen is based on Jack Kerouac’s beloved novel of the same name.

It was announced earlier this week that the film’s trailer would finally be released online after a long wait but on Friday, the day of its release, the On The Road Facebook group posted they were having technical issues getting the movie trailer online.

This morning the On The Road Facebook group released their first statement about the delay, “Dear all, for technical reasons, we will be able to give you access to the trailer only in a few minutes. Stay connected, the problem is being solved currently. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Around 11:00 a.m. the group came back to address more issues, “The technical issue we are facing is unfortunately more important that we thought. It may take some time before it is actually solved. We know your expectations are high and will keep you posted in the coming hours. Thank you for your patience.”

A little after 11a.m. they commented that the problem is with the file, “We would like to let you know the problem has nothing to do with the uploading of the video but with the file itself. We are fixing it. Thank you.”

As of 12:50 p.m. central time the problem had not been resolved. Although, bloggers are already posting .gifs of images from the trailer including Kristen Stewart.

On The Road has been in the works since 1957. In the 50′s Jack Kerouac suggested to Marlon Brando that he should play the character of Dean Moriarity and Kerouac himself would play the part of Sal Paradise. The project never saw the light of day.

Francis Ford Coppola tried to revive the idea of a film in 1979 when he bought the rights to the movie deal. The 70′s project also fell through. Years later, Coppola approached Ethan Hawke and Brad Pitt to play the roles of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty. The Pitt and Hawke project fell apart soon after. He tried again in 2001 to get the project written and have Billy Crudup to play Sal and Colin Farrell as Dean.

On The Road was rumored to be playing at film festivals in 2012. The film does not have an official release date in America but it is supposed to premiere later in 2012.

Hopefully it won’t be much longer, but it’s been several hours since we’ve had any updates from anyone directly connected to the MK2 and the movie.

This is a screencap of a conversation I had last week with Josh from Variety:

The website I Am Rogue also had a chance to talk about the status of Tron 3 with Bruce Boxleitner at a recent event. Their article is beneath the cut.

From L&PM Editores:

As announced, here are the two photos we promised to share with the On The Road fans. The idea was to release them on Jack Kerouac’s 90th birthday, on March 12th, but we got so anxious to share with as many people as we could that we created a challenge: give 300 retweets to a link so the photos could be out there. So, we are paying that promise!

The first photo “Dean on bennies” was captured by Greg Smith in a Texas road during the cross-country trip done by the movie’s cast & crew to film the second unit, going through the same roads described in On The Road.

The second photo was made inside the Hudson also by Greg Smith. Between San José and San Francisco. Garrett drives the car, with Al Hinkle (who helped Neal Cassady to buy the Hudson 1947 that is mentioned in OTR) in the backseat. 55 years latter, after the original adventure, Al Hinkle, Garrett Hedlund and John Cassady, Neal’s son, took the Hudson to south California, down to San Francisco, to deliver the car used in the movie making to the Beat Museum- its new home.
